Kentucky CASA Network (KCN) Partners with the Kentucky Bourbon Chase Relay Race for 5th Year to Raise Funds to Help Abused and Neglected Children in Kentucky

For the 5th consecutive year, the Kentucky CASA Network (KCN) is pleased to be one of the recognized charities of the Kentucky Bourbon Chase Ragnar Relay Race. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are volunteers appointed by a judge to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in court. The KCN's mission is to strengthen the local CASA programs that recruit and train these CASA volunteers. The Bourbon Chase is a 200-mile relay race that starts at Jim Beam and runs through the Kentucky Bourbon Trail finishing in downtown Lexington. The KCN recruited 4 “charity teams” for this year’s race.

This fundraising event is a unique collaborative partnership between the State Association and Local CASA Programs. As part of CASA’s involvement with the race, Local CASA Programs provide volunteers to work the race course throughout the 200-mile relay and are present throughout duration - from helping at the Jim Beam start to handing out medals at the finish line - and receive funding for their participation.

Starting with the 2014 race, the Kentucky CASA Network has worked with 30 charity teams, several of which have chosen to run and raise funds more than once for CASA. With the completion of the 2018 race on Saturday, October 13, charity teams have raised just over $215,000 collectively in five years. These funds have gone a long way in providing much needed support to the over 26,000 abused and neglected children in Kentucky in need of a CASA volunteer. In 2014, Kentucky had CASA programs covering 37 counties. In 2018, Local CASA Programs now are active in 56 of Kentucky’s 120 counties.
